The box includes the components necessary to accommodate two extra settlers: two sets of new playing pieces (settlements, cities, and roads) in two unique colors, additional terrain hexes and sea frames to enlarge the game board, extra resource and development cards, and crucial special rules to keep the game flowing smoothly with more players. Most notably, the Special Building Phase rule is included, which allows players who are not the active roller to build during other players’ turns, significantly reducing downtime and keeping everyone engaged in the lively trade negotiations and resource management that define the Catan experience.
